Microbial Ecology in Health and Disease served as the official journal of the Society for Microbial Ecology and Disease (SOMED) and played an important role in the Society’s scientific identity.
On June 27, 2011, SOMED re-launched the journal under an Open Access model as part of a new publishing strategy in collaboration with Co-Action Publishing.
About the Journal
Microbial Ecology in Health and Disease focused on research related to human microbial ecosystems and aimed to increase understanding of their role in health and disease.
Open Access Re-launch
With its 2011 re-launch, the journal entered a new phase of development, making its content more widely accessible to the international scientific community through an Open Access publishing model.
This transition also made the journal archive, dating back to 1988, freely accessible to readers and researchers.
Editorial Leadership
The journal was led by Editor-in-Chief Tore Midtvedt, together with Associate Editors Elisabeth Norin of Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and Michael Wilson of the Eastman Dental Institute, United Kingdom.
Journal Status
Microbial Ecology in Health and Disease ceased publication in 2019. Nevertheless, it remains an important part of SOMED’s publishing history and scientific legacy.
